Find Your Right-People :: with generosity and authenticity

I first heard the term right people from Havi Brooks who I was awestruck by about the time I got pregnant with my second child, Mister X-man. Havi was speaking in hilarious witty poetry and selling destuckification for $400/hour. I was dumbfounded.

This woman was being her whacky self and making a livelihood from it – and a good one.

Anyway, in her blog articles she talked a lot about the importance of finding your right people, that they exist and correspond to who you really truly are at your most brilliant authentic Self. She talked about being yourself and how scary that is and how to overcome your fears (or stucknesses) and that when you do, your right people will be there – and your wrong people will skedaddle.

After years of studying business and marketing I have come to realize that right people is Havi’s (actually I am not sure she actually coined the term) round about way of talking about ideal clients.

Ideal clients are the clients who you will actually love working with, whom you will love. In fact the people you work with will become your inner circle and form the foundation of your healing and belonging in the world.

I talk a lot about this kind of thing with my A Room of Her Own clients.

This is a new age of marketing.

Instead of selling to people, we are beginning to dig deep, find our depths, offer our treasures and trust that our services will sell themselves as we offer tidbits and tasters, free-gifts and gestures of generosity.

We are also in the age of marketing when you as an entrepreneur get to decide who to have in your inner circle. If you are here you are likely part of my tribe of authentic, soulful and dreaming women who are embracing the obscured reality that women, especially mothers, create culture.

You’re probably not a TV watching (with some notable exceptions – Dexter, Mad Men….) superficial plastic loving, hair dyeing, make-a-million kind of business woman.

No, your different, you’re my tribe of creative eccentric visionaries and sacred activists and I have the honor of hanging out with you.

When you find your right people you will be supported by them, encircled by them.

Don’t waste your time trying to be liked by everyone, be loved instead… by the right ones.

So here’s what I want you to do:

  1. Take a moment to describe your dream tribe in the comments below. Not sure where to start? Describe your 3 best friends or favorite people in the world.
  2. Again, in the comments, list 5 places where members of your dream tribe hang out – bricks & mortar or virtual

See you soon,

  1. My Dream Tribe:
They know that there is a problem – a big problem – and it’s hurting everyone they care about
They know that present solutions are just making matters worse
    They want a real solution
They are happy to get off their backsides and do something about it
They understand that we have to work together although not necessarily as a team

I have no idea where they hang out. I can tell you loads of places they don’t hang out but I haven’t found them yet. I know such people exist because they are the ordinary people that shape history. I guess conditions are just not bad enough yet
